Mexico: consular visa to residence-card preparation
Mexico’s temporary-residence economic-solvency route has a consular visa stage and a separate INM residence-card exchange after entry. This guide uses the San Diego 2026 financial checklist as a named example; other consulates can require different amounts and evidence.

Keep the visa stage and card stage separate
Check the granted visa and entry instructions. A visa allows you to request entry but does not guarantee admission. Retain the entry documentation needed for the INM exchange.

Exchange the visa for your residence document

Timing: Within 30 calendar days after entry, according to INM.

Renewals · 1 steps
Confirm the next permission before the card expires

Confirm before acting
- San Diego’s example is not a nationwide solvency quote or confirmation that any US resident can apply there.
- Temporary residence, foreign remote work, Mexican employment, family permission and tax are different questions. Confirm the activities authorised for you.
