A banking preparation checklist for moving to Seychelles
Check the bank's requirements before relying on a local account. This checklist separates published document requirements from questions that need a bank's answer.
General research support, not personal immigration, legal, tax or financial advice. The relevant authority or bank must confirm your individual position. Do not share private documents in social comments.
Use the right bank and account requirements
Requirements can depend on the bank, account and your circumstances. This guide uses Absa Seychelles' published customer-information page as one documented example, not a recommendation or a promise that you can open an account. Check Seychelles-specific documents rather than another country's page from the same banking group.
Absa Seychelles lists a valid passport for foreigners and non-residents, proof of address, evidence of income, and a valid GOP or residence permit where applicable. Its address guidance includes recency and document conditions. Read the full bank page and ask which evidence it will accept for your situation.
Prepare a private document checklist
- Valid identification that the selected bank accepts.
- Your actual address evidence, checked against that bank's current format and recency rules.
- Evidence explaining income and how the account will be funded.
- Any immigration or employment document the bank says applies to your circumstances.
- A written list of outstanding documents and whether originals or certified copies are required.
Ask these questions before relying on the account
- Will you consider my nationality, current residence status and intended account use?
- Can any checks happen before arrival, and is a branch visit necessary?
- What address evidence is accepted if I have only recently arrived?
- Which currencies, incoming transfers, cards and online banking services does the account support?
- What are the current opening deposit, ongoing balance requirements, fees and foreign-exchange charges?
- How will I receive updates, and what documents could delay the decision?
Keep banking separate from permission to live or work
Treat the bank's account decision and the immigration authority's permission as separate checks. Do not infer a residence, employment or tax outcome from an account application. If a provider or intermediary promises guaranteed approval, confirm the claim directly with the bank using its official contact details.
Never post identity documents, account details, source-of-funds records or tax identifiers in comments. Use the bank's own secure process. Keep written answers for your research file, and confirm requirements again before making arrangements that depend on them.
Budget with actual answers
Record quoted account costs, transfer costs and any unresolved setup expenses in your moving budget. Keep unknown amounts blank until you have a quote; a missing figure is not a zero. Our moving cost worksheet helps organise your own inputs. Neither this guide nor the optional research pack opens a bank account or supplies personal financial advice.
