Qualifying conditions and capital requirements are separate from application fees.
Documents and requirements

AIMA also requires a valid passport/residence visa, evidence of the foreign work relationship, accommodation and compliance with criminal-record and entry restrictions.
Questions to resolve
A visa or residence card does not itself grant IFICI tax relief; IFICI has separate qualifying-activity and prior-tax-residence conditions. The two-year validity stated here is the initial residence permit from card issuance; AIMA states renewals are for successive three-year periods. It is not the entry-visa duration. Check your work and income evidence Use this route for qualifying work performed remotely for an employer or clients outside Portugal. Assemble the contract or service evidence, proof of tax residence and the preceding three months of professional income. The current principal threshold is four minimum monthly wages: EUR 3,680 using the 2026 EUR 920 reference. Prepare for the visa and residence stages Start with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs residence-visa checklist and the competent consular post. For the later AIMA residence appointment, retain your passport, residence visa, overseas employment or client declaration and accommodation evidence. The consulate may request additional documents. Plan renewals and tax separately AIMA describes the residence permit as valid for two years, with successive three-year renewals. Keep evidence of the qualifying relationship and address. Budget for insurance, translations and official charges in addition to the income test. A residence permit does not itself award IFICI tax relief.
