Researching a move when your passport and residence differ
Separate nationality, your current permission to live somewhere, and the permission you need at your destination before choosing a route.
General research support, not personal immigration, legal, tax or financial advice. The relevant authority or bank must confirm your individual position. Do not share private documents in social comments.
Start with two separate facts
Record the passport nationality you will travel on and your current country of lawful residence separately. A page about moving from the UK is not, by itself, confirmation that its routes apply to every person living in the UK. A route may ask about nationality, residence, or both.
If you hold more than one nationality, check which passport you will use and whether the destination has a specific rule for your circumstances. Do not publish passport numbers, residence documents or financial records in social comments.
A UK Graduate visa is UK permission
GOV.UK describes the Graduate visa as permission to stay in the UK. Its guidance allows travel abroad and return while the permission is valid; that is not a statement that another country will admit you or let you work there. Check the current UK rules and the destination separately before travelling.
Worked example for researching Belize
Belize Immigration asks visitors to check by country of nationality. At the source check shown above, its table lists Pakistan as requiring an entry visa. Its listed short-visit exemptions refer to qualifying US, Canadian or Schengen documents; the page does not list a UK Graduate visa among those exemptions. Do not assume that living in the UK creates an exemption. Ask Belize Immigration or the relevant mission to confirm how the rules apply to your exact documents before booking.
Entry for a visit, permission to work and longer-term residence are different research questions. The entry-visa page is not a complete migration or employment guide. Use the official immigration portal to find the separate residence and work-permit processes.
Build your research brief
- Passport nationality and expiry; do not share the number publicly.
- Current residence permission and expiry, including any pending application.
- Destination and purpose: visit, local employment, remote work, study, family or retirement.
- Intended stay, accompanying family and where the application must be made.
- Official entry, transit, work and residence requirements, recorded separately with their check dates.
- Questions still needing an answer from the destination authority or a suitably qualified adviser.
Use comparisons as research support
Start with the free comparison and read each route's recorded conditions and sources. If the catalogue does not cover your passport or circumstances, leave that point unresolved rather than treating a similar origin page as a match. The optional Focused Move Pack organises selected research; it does not determine eligibility, grant permission or submit an application.
