Where to start researching a move to Colombia
Choose a purpose before a visa category, then use Colombia's official sources to check your nationality, documents and application process.
General research support, not personal immigration, legal, tax or financial advice. The relevant authority or bank must confirm your individual position. Do not share private documents in social comments.
Start with your purpose and passport
A request to move to Colombia is not enough to identify a route. Start with the nationality on your passport, your lawful country of residence, how long you intend to stay and what you plan to do. Local employment, remote work, study, family and retirement raise different questions.
You do not need to share documents publicly to ask a general question. Keep passport numbers, exact financial details and application records private.
Read the relevant official category
Colombia's foreign ministry describes visitor V, migrant M and resident R visa types. These labels are starting points, not a finding that a route is available to you. Open the ministry's current category guidance, read the permitted activities and restrictions, and record the specific requirements that apply to your intended purpose.
Do not use a tourism or short-entry rule as evidence that you may work or settle. Check work permission, the permitted stay and longer-term residence questions individually.
Prepare questions before applying
- Which specific category covers my intended activity, and does it apply to my nationality and circumstances?
- Where must I apply given my present country and lawful residence?
- Which identity, income, insurance, family or activity evidence does that exact category require?
- What translation, legalisation or apostille conditions apply to the documents I actually need?
- What are the current application and issuance charges, and which costs are non-refundable?
- What post-approval registration or identification steps will apply to my case?
Keep preparation separate from approval
The ministry's application guidance separates assessment and issuance stages. Paying for an assessment does not guarantee a visa, and submitting an application does not itself make a stay lawful. Use the official process and ask the relevant consulate or a suitably qualified adviser where your position is unclear.
Keep a record of the official page, check date, required documents and unresolved questions. Avoid committing to arrangements that depend on an unconfirmed outcome.
Our present coverage and your next step
The Colombia catalogue page shows its own current publication status. This planning guide does not release or endorse any withheld Colombia programme record. It provides a way to organise your questions and reach the official material while those dossiers remain under evidence review.
Use the moving cost worksheet for your own quotes and keep unknown amounts blank. Free comparisons can help with routes currently covered by our checked catalogue, but do not treat a missing route as proof that it does not exist. An optional research pack does not replace an immigration decision or professional advice.
