Winter in Tbilisi is cold but manageable. The Caucasus mountains offer skiing within an hour's drive. Summer temperatures are hot but not extreme.
The Practical Realities
Banking: Georgian banks (TBC, Bank of Georgia) are modern, well-capitalised, and relatively easy to open accounts with. Foreign currency accounts are standard. Online banking is good.
Internet: Generally reliable. Average speeds in central Tbilisi are adequate for remote work; dedicated fibre connections are available.
Healthcare: Ranges from excellent (at premium private hospitals) to inconsistent (public system). Travel insurance or private health insurance is sensible.
Naturalisation: 10 years of legal residence for standard citizenship. Georgia also has a faster track for "outstanding contribution" and certain investor categories.
Who Georgia Is For
Georgia is an outstanding option for technology workers and entrepreneurs who want to dramatically reduce their tax burden while maintaining a genuinely interesting lifestyle at a fraction of Western European costs. The Virtual Zone 1% effective tax rate is matched by almost nowhere else.
It's less suited to people who need proximity to Western European business culture, or who have significant health concerns requiring specialist medical care.
