Georgia Digital Nomad and Tax Residency 2026 — The Low-Tax Caucasus Option
Visa situation
Citizens of most Western countries (EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia, and many others) can enter Georgia visa-free and stay for up to 365 days per calendar year. This is not a digital nomad visa — it is simply a generous visa-free policy. You can leave and re-enter. Many digital nomads simply renew their stay by making a short border run to Armenia or Turkey.
Remotely from Georgia programme
Georgia launched an official digital nomad-style programme called Remotely from Georgia that allows remote employees and freelancers to apply for a formal residence permit. Requirements: employment contract or freelance income evidence. Income threshold: approximately USD 2,000/month.
Tax — the Virtual Zone
Georgia's Virtual Zone (VZ) designation allows IT companies registered in Georgia to pay 0% corporate tax on services provided to foreign clients and only 5% withholding tax on dividends. This is one of the world's most competitive tax regimes for IT and software businesses. If you run a qualifying IT business, registering it in Georgia as a VZ company can reduce your effective tax rate dramatically.
Individual income tax in Georgia is a flat 20%. But with the VZ structure, many digital nomads pay themselves dividends at 5%.
Cost of living
Tbilisi: USD 800–1,500/month for a comfortable life. One of the lowest cost of living among European and near-European countries. Excellent food, strong coffee culture, good internet in cities, very safe.
The honest caveat
Georgia is not an EU country and does not lead to an EU passport. It is best suited to those who want low taxes and low cost of living, not those whose primary goal is EU residency or citizenship.
